ISTG If Jenny Han Chooses Team Belly In The Summer I Turned Pretty S3 I’ll Riot

Let’s not beat around the hydrangea bush: if Jenny Han goes full “Team Belly” and ends The Summer I Turned Pretty with our girl solo, I’m going to need Cousins Beach to open a support hotline. What was the point of all those years of love triangle-induced heart palpitations? Did I binge two seasons, survive a global pandemic, and wait out a writers’ strike just to watch Belly become a self-love guru?

This isn’t just TV — this is emotional warfare, and the fandom is bracing itself for impact. (Yes, I’m going to be incredibly dramatic about this.)

Also, there are spoilers ahead, you have been warned.

For anyone who’s somehow missed the chaos, The Summer I Turned Pretty is the reason half of Gen Z believes their soulmate is lurking somewhere near a beach house with questionable WiFi. Belly Conklin (Lola Tung), our main character and indecisive queen, has spent her formative summers ping-ponging between two brothers — Conrad (Christopher Brine), the human raincloud with a jawline, and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno), the golden retriever with Miley Cyrus-like blue eyes. This isn’t just a love triangle; it’s an Olympic sport at this point.

So why is everyone suddenly convinced Belly’s going to “choose herself”? Blame the season three poster: Belly, alone, looking pensive in front of a hydrangea bush. The internet did what it does best — spiralled.

TikTok went from “Team Conrad or Team Jeremiah?” to “What if Belly just… doesn’t pick anyone?” aka, my nightmare.

Jenny Han herself has been fanning the flames, teasing “curveballs” and telling Entertainment Tonight in March, “there are going to be surprises”.

Now, look. I am a feminist and I am a proud member of the ‘everyone needs their single era to become a fully formed human’ club.

But if this show ends with Belly rejecting both brothers to go on a solo Eat Pray Cousins Beach journey, I will be forced to write a strongly worded letter to Amazon Prime.

Yes, in the books, Belly does her solo thing for a bit — she goes on exchange, lives her best life, and then gets back with Conrad. That’s called growth. That’s called payoff. That’s what we signed up for.

A “Team Belly” ending here? That’s like opening your takeaway bag and realising they forgot the chips. The meal’s there, but the joy? Gone.

Let’s talk about why Team Conrad is the only correct answer. Conrad is the original, the blueprint, the reason we all learned what “brooding” meant at age 14. Sure, he’s made mistakes (like lowkey a lot, but who hasn’t?), but the chemistry between him and Belly is EVERYTHING. The man remembers her favourite candy and that she gets cold all the time. Yes, the bar is in hell, but let me have this!!

Jeremiah is lovely, but he’s the safe choice. He also simply cheats on her in third book — it was never going to be him.

Besides, Conrad is the one who makes Belly — and us — feel something. And isn’t that the point of all this?

The cast have been very reassuring to nervous fans. When asked about the finale, Chris told PEDESTRIAN.TV, “I think we just trust that Jenny knows what she’s doing with [the show].”

Gavin also assured us that, “At the bottom of it, we all love each other — Jeremiah, Conrad, Belly — everyone has such a deep friendship… I think ultimately we’re family, all of us, no matter what happens.”

Which is cute, but also: I want drama, not a group hug.

So, Jenny, if you’re reading this, please don’t leave us with a “Team Belly” ending. We’ve had enough uncertainty this year. Give us the fireworks. Give us the payoff. And if you must surprise us, make it the good kind — not the ‘I waited three years for a self-help montage’ kind.

But realistically, I will always be Team Jenny Han, because she can do no wrong… unless, well, you know.

We’ll just have to wait and see until July 16 when The Summer I Turned Pretty season three kicks off on Prime Video.
