EG Group, the forecourts operator, has agreed a deal to buy 52 KFC restaurants in the UK, making it the largest franchisee in Western Europe for the chain.

The buyer is owned by the billionaire Issa brothers, Zuber and Mohsin, and private equity firm TDR Capital. They last year unveiled a deal to buy a majority stake in grocer Asda.

EG said the network acquired from Amsric Group, an appointed franchisee for KFC, comprises a mixture of drive thru and traditional site formats, across the south and south west regions. More than 1600 people work across that portfolio.

Post-completion EG will operate over 220 KFC restaurants in Europe and the UK.

The Issa brothers said: “We have seen a marked upward trend in the performance of our existing KFC network and this has given us confidence to consider and invest in more assets.”

Earlier this year EG Group also bought the fast food chain Leon.
