Israeli strike on Gaza refugee camp kills 14 Palestinians

AN Israeli strike on a residential building inside a refugee camp in Gaza has killed 14 people, mostly women and children.

The Shifa and al-Ahli hospitals confirmed the toll from the strike in the built-up Jabaliya refugee camp, saying five women and seven children were among those killed.

There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military.

Since the Hamas attacks of October 7, Israel has killed more than 54,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children. The military siege and offensive has destroyed vast areas of Gaza and displaced around 90% of the population.

Israel has said it will maintain control of Gaza indefinitely and senior leaders have openly backed plans for the ethnic cleansing of the territory

These have been met with widespread condemnation from the international community.

It comes after at least 31 people were killed on Sunday as they went to receive aid from an Israeli-backed foundation in Gaza.

More than 170 people were also wounded as large crowds tried to access food in the site in the southern city of Rafah.

Witnesses said Israeli forces fired towards the crowds just before about 1100 yards from an aid site run by an Israeli-backed foundation.

The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, a new aid organisation backed by Israel and the US, has seen its distribution of aid marred by chaos, and multiple witnesses have said Israeli troops fired on crowds near the delivery sites.

Before Sunday, at least six people had been killed and more than 50 wounded, according to local health officials.

The foundation claims that the private security contractors guarding its sites did not fire on the crowds, while the Israeli military has acknowledged firing warning shots.
