Israeli Sources Assert: Withholding Qatari Funds Led to Tensions with Gaza

The recent security tension between the Israeli army and the Palestinian factions in the Gaza Strip resulted from the delay in transferring the Qatari grant, according to Israeli political sources.

The sources said that the Israeli intelligence is aware of the tensions, and claims to have information that Hamas called upon its members and various factions in the Strip to prepare to face a gradual escalation of a war that would lead to an all-out confrontation.

Hamas stated that the escalation is because of Israel's ongoing blockade on the enclave and setting impossible conditions on exporting Gaza products and controlling them at the crossings, without any consideration for Palestinian interests.

The movement also stated that Israel is obstructing the reconstruction of Gaza and the introduction of Qatari aid.

On Monday, the Iron Dome missile system intercepted a rocket launch from Gaza, the first since Israel's 11-day war with Hamas in May this year.

Hamas announced that the rocket launch came to affirm the seriousness of the threats launched by the resistance factions and the Islamic Jihad movement in response to the Israeli military operation in the Jenin refugee camp, which killed four young men.

Israeli army spokesman announced that sirens sounded on Monday afternoon in Sderot and settlements around Gaza after the missiles were launched.

The rocket caused great panic in Sderot, and terrified residents fled to shelters.

Meanwhile, Israeli sources revealed that Qatar agreed with the United Nations to distribute the grant to needy families in the Gaza Strip at $100 to about 160,000 citizens.

The agreement stipulates that the UN will organize the credit card payments once a month through Palestinian banks.

The agreement will be signed, Tuesday, "if there is no emergency that prevents this," according to the sources.

However, they pointed to the possibility of an emergency because Hamas is not satisfied with this agreement which accepts the Israeli demand and deprives Gaza government employees of this grant.

Qatar allocated a monthly amount of $30 million for the grant to be distributed to needy families, reconstruction projects, and Gaza government employees.

Hamas considers depriving its employees of the grant a violation of the agreements and an Israeli attempt to change deterrence equations.
