Israeli Soldiers Face Discipline For Failing To Protect Palestinians

Israeli military in southern Israel

The Israeli military has stated that soldiers who fail to protect Palestinians from settler violence or take part in such attacks will face disciplinary action. This response comes after a critical report from the international NGO, Human Rights Watch.

Human Rights Watch accused the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) of not adequately safeguarding Palestinians in the occupied West Bank from violent attacks by settlers since October 7. The report also mentioned instances where IDF personnel were allegedly involved in these attacks.

According to HRW, these attacks have resulted in the displacement of Palestinians from 20 communities and the complete uprooting of at least seven communities.

The IDF emphasized that its primary mission is to ensure the security of all residents in the area and to prevent terrorism and activities that pose a threat to the citizens of Israel. The military clarified that if Israeli citizens violate the law, it is the responsibility of the Israeli police to apprehend and charge them.

Furthermore, the IDF acknowledged that some of its troops had witnessed Israelis attacking Palestinians. The military's statement underscores the importance of upholding the rule of law and ensuring the safety and well-being of all individuals in the region.
