Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rushed to hospital

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been rushed to hospital after suffering a health complication.

The 73-year-old’s office has confirmed that he is in “good condition” after undergoing a medical evaluation at the Sheba Hospital near Tel Aviv.

An unnamed source close to the politician said he had fainted at home but regained consciousness at hospital, Israeli news site Walla reported.

Meanwhile, health officials told Haaretz that Mr Netanyahu was conscious and walking on his own.

A spokesperson for his office confirmed: “Prime Minister Netanyahu arrived a short while ago to the Sheba Medical Center.

“He is well and is undergoing a medical evaluation.”

Mr Netanyahu is Israel’s longest serving leader. He has served multiple terms stretching over 15 years in office. His current far-right government, a collection of religious and ultranationalist parties, took office last December.

Mr Netanyahu is said to be in generally good health, though he was briefly hospitalised last October after feeling unwell during prayers on Yom Kippur.

Israel is currently in the midst of a heat wave, with temperatures in the mid-30C range.
