Israeli PM Vows To Fight Against Nuclearization Of Iranian ‘terror Regime’

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday warned the “terror regime” in Iran not to cross the Jewish state’s “red lines,” in remarks during a visit to the Israel Defense Forces Northern Command.

“The main enemy we are facing is the terror regime in Iran and its satellites in Syria and Lebanon,” said Netanyahu. “We are determined to fight Iran’s attempts to develop a nuclear arsenal. We are determined to fight any attempt by Iran to entrench itself on our northern military frontier in Syria. We are determined to fight all attempts by Hezbollah to show aggression against us from Lebanon.

“And those who need to be given a reminder of our red lines in this matter will receive it,” he added.

Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, who accompanied Netanyahu, similarly vowed to prevent Tehran from establishing a permanent military presence in Syria, as well as to curb the flow of Iranian arms to Hezbollah.

“The quiet in the north is an important goal. Therefore, along with maintaining calm, we will act powerfully against any attempt to harm Israeli citizens and IDF soldiers,” said Gallant.

Netanyahu said Tuesday that he would change Israel’s strategy toward countering Iranian nuclear ambitions, promising to bring the fight back to the court of public opinion according to The Times of Israel.

Speaking at a cabinet meeting, Netanyahu said that it was still a “possibility” that Western powers would resuscitate efforts to sign a nuclear deal with Iran and that he would apply public pressure to prevent it.

Tuesday’s meeting was the first with official business since the government was sworn in on Thursday.

“We will work openly, from a position of strength, in the international arena against a return to the nuclear agreement,” Netanyahu said. “Not only in talks with leaders behind closed doors but strongly and openly in the sphere of global opinion, which is now aware of the true dangers posed by Iran – the Iranian regime that is killing innocent citizens in and outside Iran.”

Dermer, who served as Israel’s ambassador to the United States from 2013 to 2021, is the first member of Israel’s new government to travel to Washington, as Jerusalem appears readying to ramp up a pressure campaign on the Islamic Republic.

On Monday, Netanyahu addressed the matter in a video call to the AIPAC Political Leadership Forum, saying, “The time has come for Israel and the United States, along with other countries, to stand together, and I look forward to discussing this with President [Joe] Biden and his team. Today, more people agree on the issue than ever before.”

U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said on Monday that the Iranian nuclear threat would be a “substantial topic of conversation” during his upcoming visit to Israel.

“We’ll have the opportunity to engage deeply with the new Israeli government on the threat posed by Iran. And I think we share the same fundamental objectives. And we will work through any differences we have on tactics, the same way that we have over the course of the past two years,” Sullivan said.

Sullivan is expected to arrive in the Jewish state next week, although the precise date has yet to be finalized.
