Israeli police attacked on Sunday a number of worshipers performing Eid al-Fitr prayer at Bab al-Asbat, outside Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, wounding several including elderlies.

The Palestinian News Agency (WAFA) reported that Israeli forces used batons during the attack, in addition to beating some worshipers with rifle butts.

According to the agency, Palestinian Jerusalem residents flocked to the vicinity of the mosque compound to perform the Eid prayer as close as possible to the mosque compound, which was closed down over coronavirus fears during Ramadan.

The mosque is set to reopen its doors again after the holiday, according to the Jerusalem Islamic Endowment (Waqf).
