A senior Israeli security delegation headed to Cairo on Thursday to discuss all aspects of the Gaza file, consolidate the ceasefire agreement and possibly even a prisoner exchange, reported Israel’s Calcalist.
The delegation is chaired by members of the National Security Council (NSC) and representatives from the army and intelligence.
The visit is taking place as tensions have flared again in Gaza in wake of the launch of incendiary balloons towards Israeli territories and ensuing Israeli strikes on the coastal enclave.
Israel has vowed to retaliate firmly to the attacks.
During ensuing Israeli political and military talks to address the incendiary attacks, Egypt, which mediated the Gaza truce, received word from Hamas that it was not involved in the new escalation.
Israeli state television reported that the NSC dispatched its delegation to Cairo at the insistence of Egyptian intelligence, which is seeking to cement the ceasefire and draft a plan to reconstruct Gaza in a way that ensures that the Hamas movement – the enclave’s ruler - does not benefit from any construction material.
