Israel is set to release nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners as part of the first phase of a ceasefire-hostage release deal scheduled to commence on Sunday morning. The ceasefire agreement consists of three phases, with the initial phase expected to span six weeks and involve the release of 33 Israeli hostages. Additionally, foreign hostages, including Americans, are anticipated to be released as per a source familiar with the agreement.
The Israeli government granted approval to the ceasefire deal following over seven hours of deliberation on Friday, extending into the early hours of Saturday. As part of the resolution endorsing the deal, the government announced the release of 737 Palestinian prisoners and detainees, along with 1,167 Gaza residents who were detained during the Israeli offensive in the region.

Contrary to the government's figures, the Prisoners Media Office in Gaza stated on Saturday that Israel is expected to release 1,737 prisoners, encompassing 120 women and children. Notably, close to 300 Palestinians serving life sentences are also among those slated for release, according to the organization.
The discrepancy in the reported numbers between the two sides has raised questions, prompting inquiries for clarification from both parties.
