Israel suspend league games as Scotland's playoff rivals have Euro preparations thrown into disarray

Israel have had their Euro 2020 playoff preparations thrown into disarray after they suspended all league action.

Scotland face Israel at Hampden next month with the winners due to face Norway or Serbia in the final but many of the travelling side won't even be allowed to train with their clubs.

A large chunk of their squad who play the football in their homeland won't have had a game for three weeks ahead of playing Scotland after they suspended football until the end of next month at least.

Israel became the first country in the world to go into a second lockdown earlier this week and their Government are cracking down hard in a bid to prevent the further spread of Covid-19.

And domestic clubs will not even be allowed to train, although the national team and clubs in European competition will be exempt from that restriction as they prepare to face Steve Clarke's side.

Israel's Sports Minister, Hili Tropper, said: "These measures will allow international games to continue.

"We are sorry to have to suspend all sporting league games in Israel and I sincerely hope that we can allow competitive sports in Israel to return as soon as possible."

Motherwell are also currently in Israel with the Fir Park side taking on Hapoel Be'er Sheva in the Europa League.
