Israel-Hamas war latest: Netanyahu orders siege on Gaza as hostages are threatened with execution

‘Israel didn’t start this war, but it will finish it’: Benjamin Netanyahu

Israel has targeted a “terrorist squad” on the northern outskirts of Gaza, footage has purported to show, striking their positions and killing multiple militants, after it retook control of the border.

The Israeli Air Forces (IAF) posted multiple videos online showing the strikes on Tuesday morning, which are believed to have been carried out by an H-64D “Apache” attack helicopter.

The strike hit a section of the Gaza fence in the Zikim area, north of the strip, according to a statement by the IAF.

It comes as Israel claimed to have “restored full control” over the border with Gaza on Tuesday. Israeli military officials later claimed to have found the bodies of about 1,500 Hamas militants in their territory.

Israeli spokesperson Richard Hecht said the military has also largely gained control in the country's south on the fourth day of fighting following an unprecedented surprise attack.

No Hamas fighters have crossed into Israel since Monday night, although infiltrations could still be possible, Mr Hecht added.

Israel has previously reported 900 soldiers and civilians killed, and Palestinian authorities have reported about 700 deaths in Gaza and the West Bank.
