Israeli authorities have gone on alert in the West Bank to ward off any possible protest over the death of Palestinian prisoner Bassam Sayeh.
Sources in the military and security command revealed that the Israel Prisons Service ordered its special forces to be on high alert to confront any riot or protest inside prisons.
Military reinforcements have also been sent to the West Bank to join thousands of soldiers already deployed in streets and near Palestinian cities and towns to confront any popular movement.
The Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission in Ramallah announced that the death of Sayeh at an Israeli hospital, upped the total number of dead Palestinian prisoners to 221 since 1967, including 65 who have died from medical negligence.
In its statement, the commission noted that once the captives heard about Sayeh’s death, they informed the administration that they are in mourning and won't be receiving meals for two days. They also held the Service responsible for the consequences of this crime.
Palestinians held on Monday condemnation protests, holding the Israeli occupation and international and rights institutions responsible for his death.
Palestinian Minister of Health Mai Kaila deplored the Israeli occupation for procrastinating in treating Sayeh and neglecting his health condition.
The prisoner was diagnosed with bone cancer in 2011, and in 2013 he suffered from leukemia. His health deteriorated while in captivity, Kaila added.
A total of 700 Palestinian captives have health conditions, with 160 of them suffering from illnesses, she stressed.
