Israel successfully tested the Arrow 3 missile system which was developed in collaboration with the US. The trial was launched on Tuesday as planned and the Israeli Defense Ministry announced that it had successfully intercepted its target.

“The successful test constitutes an important milestone in the operational capabilities of the State of Israel to defend itself against all existing and future threats,” revealed a statement.

“This successful test provides confidence in Israel's capability to protect itself from existing threats in the region,” Samuel Greaves, the present director of Missile Defense Agency (MDA), said.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu welcomed the successful test.

“Israel has strong defensive and offensive capabilities that are among the most advanced in the world,” Netanyahu declared. He went on to say, “Israel and the US have the deepest cooperation between their defense industries. I would like to express special appreciation for our ally, the United States, for the security cooperation in testing and developing our defensive systems, including the Arrow missile.”

Israeli President Reuven Rivlin said, “We have to be more agile, sharper, and smarter in order to defeat those who wish us ill.”

Arrow-3, which intercepts missiles outside the atmosphere, is part of the multi-layered system Israel is developing to defend against Iran's long-range missiles.

Israel has already deployed Arrow to counter Syrian missiles, two days ago. The Israel army Iron Dome defense system intercepted a rocket launched at Golan Heights -- the army said the rocket was fired by Iranian forces in Syria.
