Israel-Iran LIVE: Israeli minister warns Tehran 'will pay the price' after eight killed in overnight strikes

Iran fired a new wave of missile attacks on Israel early today, killing at least eight people and injuring 70, authorities in Israel have said.

Explosions rocked major Israeli cities, including Tel Aviv and the port city of Haifa. Israel’s Defence Minister Israel Katz responded by warning residents of Tehran will "pay the price and soon".

The Iranian strikes came shortly after Israel launched attacks on surface-to-surface missile sites in Iran , and killed the intelligence chief of Iran's armed forces Mohammad Kazemi.

Iran's health ministry says 224 Iranians have been killed in Israeli strikes since hostilities began on Friday, while Israel's national emergency service has said 19 Israelis have died.

US President Donald Trump has called on the two sides to make a ceasefire deal, but Iran has said it will not negotiate while under attack.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said "the issue here is not de-escalation", but stopping Iran from developing its nuclear capability.

The escalating conflict between Israel and Iran will be high on the agenda as world leaders gather in Canada later for a G7 summit.

Sir Keir Starmer said that the G7 meeting in Alberta would provide an opportunity for allies to make the case for de-escalation in the "fast moving" situation in the Middle East.

A total of 191 nations have joined the treaty, including five nuclear-weapon states, according to the United Nations.

Israel says four main Israeli company stands at Paris Airshow shut down

08:51

The four main Israeli company stands at the Paris Airshow, the world’s largest aviation tradeshow, have been shut down by organisers, an official from Israel's ministry of defence told Reuters.

A source familiar with the matter said the instruction came from French authorities after Israeli firms failed to comply with a direction from a French security agency to remove offensive or kinetic weapons from the stands.

A spokesperson for Gifas, the show's organiser, said some stands were closed, but declined to comment further

Sirens have been sounded in southern Israel following missile fire from Yemen, the Israel Defence Force has said.

The Israeli military later announced the missile had fallen before crossing into Israeli territory.

Israel also said that eight unmanned aerial vehicles from Iran had been intercepted overnight by its navy’s missile ships.

Tehran will 'pay the price and soon' for Tel Aviv strikes, says Israel's Defence Minister

07:45

Israel Defence Minister Israel Katz has warned that the residents of Tehran will "pay the price and soon", after Iranian missiles struck Tel Aviv and the port city of Haifa before dawn, killing at least five people.

It follows strongly worded phrases from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu across the weekend.

"We will hit every site and every target of the Ayatollahs' regime and what they have felt so far is nothing compared with what they will be handed in the coming days," Netanyahu said in a video message on Saturday.

He added that Israel's strikes have set Iran's nuclear program back, possibly by years, and that heavier blows were yet to come.

Trump vetoed plan to assassinate the Supreme Leader of Iran, reports say

07:35 , Jacob Phillips

Donald Trump vetoed a plot by Israel to assassinate the Supreme Leader of Iran in recent days, according to reports.

The US president opposed an operation by the Israel Defence Forces to kill Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, two officials told Reuters.

When asked about the Reuters report, Netanyahu told Fox News on Sunday: "There's so many false reports of conversations that never happened, and I'm not going to get into that."

"We do what we need to do," he told Fox.

Meanwhile, Trump has lauded Israel's offensive while denying Iranian allegations that the US has taken part.

He has warned Tehran not to widen its retaliation to include US targets. Trump has also repeatedly said Iran could end the war by agreeing to tough restrictions on its nuclear program.

Key world leaders head to Canada for G7 summit

Group of Seven leaders began gathering in the Canadian Rockies on Sunday with the Israel-Iran conflict expected to be a top priority.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said his goals for the summit include for Iran to not develop or possess nuclear weapons, ensuring Israel's right to defend itself, avoiding escalation of the conflict and creating room for diplomacy.

"This issue will be very high on the agenda of the G7 summit," Merz told reporters.

Before leaving for the summit on Sunday, US President Donald Trump was asked what he was doing to de-escalate the situation. "I hope there's going to be a deal. I think it's time for a deal," he told reporters. "Sometimes they have to fight it out."

Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian told parliament on Monday that the country has no intention to produce nuclear weapons but it would continue to pursue its right to nuclear energy and research.

Death toll in Iran climbs following latest Israeli strikes

07:09 , Jacob Phillips

The death toll in Iran had reached at least 224 since Israel first launched an attack on the nation on Friday.

Around 90% of the casualties reported to be civilians, an Iranian health ministry spokesperson said.

Israel's military said on Monday morning it had struck again at command centres belonging to the Revolutionary Guard and Iran's military.

Over the weekend, Israel said it had struck nuclear sites, killing military commanders and scientists in a bid to stop Iran from building an atomic weapon.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Saturday that Israel's strikes have set Iran's nuclear program back, possibly by years, and that heavier blows were yet to come.

Iran claims new method makes Israeli missiles target each other

07:02 , Jacob Phillips

Iran's Revolutionary Guards said its latest attack employed a new method that caused Israel's multi-layered defence systems to target each other.

Israel’s Iron Dome defence system launches guided missiles that intercept incoming rockets.

"The initiatives and capabilities used in this operation, despite the comprehensive support of the United States and Western powers and the possession of the most up-to-date and newest defence technology, led to the successful and maximum hitting of the missiles on the targets in the occupied territories," it said.

The Israeli military did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the strikes.

Israeli officials have repeatedly said their Iron Dome defence system is not 100% and warned of tough days ahead.

Video footage shows several missiles over Tel Aviv following missile strikes overnight.

Explosions could be heard in the city, and several homes in a densely populated neighbourhood were destroyed in one strike, which blew out the windows of hotels and other houses just a few hundred metres from the US Embassy.

The US ambassador said the building sustained minor damage, but there were no injuries to personnel.

Meanwhile, explosions were also heard over Jerusalem.

At least five killed in Israel following Iranian strikes overnight

06:50 , Jacob Phillips

Iranian missiles struck Israel's Tel Aviv and the port city of Haifa before dawn on Monday, destroying homes as the old enemies exchanged missile fire for the fourth day in a row.

At least five people were killed in the latest Iranian strikes, national emergency service said, bringing Israel's death toll to at least 18 since Friday.

At least 100 more were wounded in the overnight strikes, part of a wave of attacks by Tehran in retaliation for Israel's pre-emptive strikes targeting Iran's nuclear and ballistic missile programs.

Search and location operations were underway in Haifa in Israel where around 30 people were wounded, emergency authorities said, as dozens of first responders rushed to the strike zones. Fires were seen burning at a power plant near the port, media reported.

The continuous missile strikes between Israel and Iran have fueled concerns among world leaders at this week's G7 meeting that the battle between the two old enemies could lead to a broader regional conflict.
