Israel Folau reignites row after Australia rugby star's explosive anti-gay post

Australian rugby star Israel Folau has sparked fresh controversy over his views after posting an explosive anti-gay slur on his social media.

The 30-year-old, who has 73 caps for the Wallabies, posted a photo on his Instagram account "warning" that "hell awaits" homosexuals.

The photo was posted with the caption: "Those that are living in Sin will end up in Hell unless you repent. Jesus Christ loves you and is giving you time to turn away from your sin and come to him" followed by a trio bible verses.

He also shared an online article about Tasmania making gender optional on birth certificates and urged people to "turn away" from their "evil ways".

The posts has led to him coming in for fierce criticism online and could put his international future in jeopardy given he has already been warned about his conduct by Australian rugby bosses.

Rugby Australia said there would be "no comment from RA tonight".

He could fall foul of their code of conduct, which states players must "treat everyone equally, fairly and with dignity regardless of gender or gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnicity, cultural or religious background, age or disability. Any form of bullying, harassment or discrimination has no place in Rugby."

Folau first spakrked a social media storm over his views on homosexuality last year.

The devout Christian believer, considered one of rugby's most talented players, posted on Instagram last April that gays would go to hell.

The incident came six months after tweeting his opposition to same-sex marriage and led to criticism from Australian rugby chief Raelene Castle, who said he was "walking the line".

“In my career, this is the singularly most difficult thing I’ve ever had to deal with,” Castle said. “And that’s because there is no black and white answer."

It caused some sponsors to threaten to walk away from Rugby Australia, and they are now faced with a big call on the future of their star full-back following his latest outburst.
