Israel Folau launches GoFundMe page to help pay legal fees after sacking over anti-gay post

Israel Folau, one of rugby’s best-paid stars, has asked the public for help to fund his fight against Rugby Australia.

The controversial Wallaby had his multi-million dollar contract torn up after he posted on social media that “Hell awaits…drunks, homosexuals, adulterers, liars, fornicators, thieves, atheists and idolaters”.

Folau claims his contract, which had three years left to run, was unlawfully terminated because of his religious beliefs.

He intends to take the matter all the way to the High Court of Australia but knows the “fight of my life” could cost him a fortune so has set up a GoFundMe page.

The fullback said: “I know I am putting myself on the line - this action will be very costly in terms of time, money and reputation - but I do not intend to stop now.

“I would be very grateful for your support. Could you make a donation, within your capacity to give, in order to support my action? I have the fight of my life on my hands and every little bit will help.

“Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
