Israel has closed off West Bank and Gaza Strip crossings on Wednesday to limit the spread of the coronavirus in Palestinian territories.
Humanitarian cases would be handled exceptionally, as well as Palestinians arriving from the West Bank to work in Israel in specific sectors (agriculture, health services, construction), officials said.
Yotam Shefer, who heads the international department of Israel's Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), said that all workers who enter Israel should stay from one to two months.
Workers won’t be permitted to return to the West Bank and their residency should be handled by their managers, he added.
Any employee who enters the West Bank during this period would be banned from accessing Israel, Shefer continued.
The Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation revealed that 25,000 Palestinians entered Israel Wednesday morning compared to 20,000 earlier this week.
More are anticipated in the coming days, according to the German news agency, dpa.
