Israel cabinet approves ceasefire following Joe Biden intervention

The Israeli Security Cabinet has approved a ceasefire to end the 11-day military offensive in the Gaza Strip, according to reports tonight.

It follows comments from a senior Palestinian militant which said he expected a ceasefire 'within a day or two'

The expected cooling of the conflict also comes in the wake of US President Joe Biden telling Israeli PM Netanyahu he expected a 'significant de-escalation' in the region.

Nevertheless, Israeli air-strikes hit the Palestinian occupied Gaza as fighting entered its 11th day.

Meanwhile, Palestinian militants fired rockets at Israel, but they were fewer than in recent days.

So far, the conflict has claimed the lives of 232 people in Gaza and 13 in Israel.
