Isolation Stories: Sheridan Smith to star in new ITV coronavirus drama filmed from lockdown

Sheridan Smith is set to star in a new ITV drama mini-series about the coronavirus pandemic.

The Gavin and Staceyactor will appear in Isolation Stories, a four-part series consisting of 15-minute episodes about the ways different households are handling life under lockdown.

Smith will star in one episode of the mini-series, which will be produced by Philomena writer Jeff Pope. She'll play Mel, a soon-to-be single mum spending her pregnancy alone during the outbreak of Covid-19.

“I am heavily pregnant and have been isolating at home so I jumped at the chance to make a drama about the massive drama going on all around us right now,” Smith said of the role.

“I think it’s really important to try and reflect what’s happening to us whilst it is still actually happening.”

Meanwhile, Spooks star Robert Glenister, Ray Donovan actor Eddie Marsan and Killing Eve’s Darren Boyd will star in other episodes.

The series is being produced while the UK is under strict lockdown rules, with directors remotely advising their actors, who will film scenes independently in their own homes.
