'Isolated' Kate Garraway sent amazing gift from Emma Willis after shopping struggle

Kate Garraway was left incredibly touched after receiving an amazing gift from ITV colleague Emma Willis after struggling to get food at Christmas as she and her children isolated in preparation for seeing her husband.

Kate's other half Derek Draper has now been in hospital for nearly a year after contracting coronavirus. After his condition deteriorated rapidly, the former Labour aide was put in a medically induced coma and, while he was free of the virus after a few months, he plummeted in weight, with his organs left severely damaged.

With Derek being in hospital for so long, the past 12 months have been extremely difficult for Good Morning Britain anchor Kate and her family and she has now opened up to The Times about the generosity of those around her as they struggled with every day things while waiting on new updates on his progress.

And one of them was a heartfelt gesture by The Voice host Emma when she learnt that Kate had failed to get an online delivery slot for her shopping as she and children Billy and Darcy self-isolated ahead of their first visit as a whole family to see Derek over the festive period.

On hearing about Kate's trouble at getting food delivered, Emma ordered an Marks & Spencer hamper to be sent to her home.

Kate told The Sunday Times magazine : "We had this extraordinary situation where we didn’t have any bread but we had canapés.

"The kids would ask, ‘What’s for breakfast?’ ‘Canapés.’ ‘Can’t we have Rice Krispies?’

Kate's interview with the times comes ahead of the release of her tell-all book The Power of Hope, which is is released on April 29.

She will also appear in her own documentary which will air on March 23. In Finding Derek, former I'm A Celebrity contestant Kate will offer an unflinching account of the profound effects on her family and on others as she opens up on camera for the first time on the reality of the past 12 months.
