‘Isn’t that stalking?’: Woman leaves bad Google review for business. Then her mom gets a call

With more than 75,000 views, TikTok user @shanaiabeee’s video has recently picked up steam. The reason why? She explained how a negative Google review she left for a colonic provider led to threats of arbitration.

In a video, @shanaiabeee says she went with a friend to get a colon cleansing, a practice that flushes out the large intestine with water. Upon arriving at a D.C.-based establishment, however, she was greeted with hostility. As soon as she and her friend approached the practicing doctor, they were accused of booking an appointment through a “fraudulent” website. The doctor explained that her business was “no longer” on Google and that they shouldn’t have been able to book an appointment with her.

Confused, the two friends asked probing questions to understand how the discrepancy occurred. That’s when the doctor accused them of “trolling” and mentioned that she was going to cancel their appointments but wanted to see them in person to confirm their identities and intentions with the practice.

The doctor’s erratic behavior continued, with her claiming she would hear what the two said on camera if they had any qualms with her service. Feeling frustrated, @shanaiabeee and her friend left the establishment after driving across town for a nonexistent appointment.

@shanaiabeee then left a review detailing her experience, expecting a simple apology—but instead, the establishment harassed her. The business owner allegedly found personal details about @shanaiabeee’s family and proceeded to call her mother. @shanaiabeee felt threatened and harassed by the encounter. It didn’t stop there.

The company also threatened her with arbitration over her negative Google review, stating: “Your digital footprint and IP address will be located by our legal team.”

Can the company actually sue her?

It is unlikely that the company would be able to successfully sue with malicious intent. Considering @shanaiabeee believes that her statements are true, she is not knowingly spreading false information with malicious intent. In the U.S., the burden of proof for defamation is traditionally very high. To prove defamation, the business would have to demonstrate that the Google review was categorically false, that it caused measurable harm to their business, and that there was actual malice or negligence associated with the statement. Given the amount of evidence required to prove defamation, it is unlikely the company would be able to take legal action against @shanaiabeee.

Can she sue the company for threatening her?

Many commenters recommended that @shanaiabeee take legal action. Others shared similar experiences. TikTok user @mia.b said, “I wrote a bad review for a doctor’s office and the doctor stalked me, even called my job! Sued and won.”

Another commenter, @JR, echoed, “Wait, that sounds illegal… I would countersue.”

@ShyGirlTravels wrote, “If it was your experience, leave it up. Even update it saying that after your review, a worker from the company is threatening to sue you & has been contacting your family.”

@shanaiabeee later updated her review with additional information about the business owner’s actions and filed a police report. She wrote, “I filed a police report because I felt threatened by her calling my mom.” According to her testimony, the police report was “rejected.”

Was it a scam the entire time?

It’s possible @shanaiabeee stumbled upon a scam, considering how bizarre the encounter was. In a later update that included her full Google review, commenters advised her to report the doctor to the board. However, when @shanaiabeee searched for the doctor’s credentials, she discovered the license was nowhere to be found online.

The Mary Sue has reached out to @shanaiabeee for additional clarification and comment.

Update June 12, 2025:

The Mary Sue reached @shanaiabeee, who further clarified, “Initially, I was in shock when I found out the owner called my mother and threatened a lawsuit. Mainly because I’m a student and I don’t have time for extra activities.”

She continued, “Secondly, I feared my safety and my mother’s safety because she stated she hired a private investigator who somehow found my mother’s phone number all the way in another state. I felt unsafe because it led me to believe she (could) find my address and I may be surveilled.  That’s why I filed a police report.”

@shanaiabeee said she still feels the need to “check over [her] shoulder.”

“Whatever she accused me of in the review response made no sense as it didn’t apply to our situation,” she said. “I also believe she doesn’t have a team behind her. It’s literally just her running her business. The only further contact I received from her was her following me on (Facebook). Then, I blocked her because that’s weird. My Facebook name isn’t my actual first and last name. Other than that nothing has happened.”
