Ismaila Soro 'monitored' by Tottenham as Celtic star linked with Premier League switch

Tottenham have been linked with a move for out-of-favour Celtic midfielder Ismaila Soro this summer.

The Ivorian has struggled to hit the ground running since joining from Israeli side Bnei Yehuda in January last year.

He set Celtic back £2.7m, but a year passed before he was given a substantial run in the team by Neil Lennon.

He briefly emerged from the cold as a starter earlier this year, coinciding with an upturn in form as he impressed fans with his dynamism, but Lennon's departure put paid to that.

He has been limited to a handful of sub appearances under John Kennedy with Scott Brown, Callum McGregor, David Turnbull and Ryan Christie all preferred in midfield positions.

His last start came in mid-February, but it is being claimed by the Daily Mail that Tottenham are 'monitoring' his progress - and could make a bid this summer.

It's reported the North London side see him as a hidden gem who could provide cheap cover for their first team as they look to rebuild after Jose Mourinho's exit.

Soro did impress against Lille in the Europa League earlier this season but it would come as a huge surprise to see Spurs come in for him.

He has only made 22 appearances in nearly a year and a half at Celtic and it remains to be seen what sort of role he will have to play at Parkhead next season.

But there will be an opening for a player of his ilk in the Hoops midfield as Scott Brown gets set to leave for Aberdeen.
