Ismaila Sarr speaks out on Liverpool links and future transfer plans

Reported Liverpool transfer target Ismaila Sarr has spoken out over his relationship with 'big brother' Sadio Mane and his future transfer plans.

The 22-year-old Senegalese forward has been linked with a move to Anfield for some time and, with Watford having suffered relegation to the Championship, a number of clubs have reportedly been watching him with interest.

Sarr scored twice when Watford stunned Klopp's side with a 3-0 win at Vicarage Road in February to end the Reds' 44-game unbeaten league run and reports suggest Watford will demand a fee in the region of £40m for him.

Speaking to French title SansLimitesn.com, Sarr said he was prepared to honour his contract with the Hornets if they want him to but admitted he could be interested in a move away.

"Personally, the relegation of Watford hurt me a lot", Sarr said.

"I didn't think we would come to this. I told myself that we had to do everything not to go down in the Championship. However, we did our best to prevent this situation.

"At the end of this season, I told myself that I failed my mission. I would have liked to help my team to stay in the Premier League. It's a failure for me. I really regret it.

"I still have years of contract with Watford, another 4 years. If Watford wants me to stay, I'll play in the Championship; my departure also depends on them. This is what is most normal for me."

Addressing the links with a move to Liverpool, Sarr admitted every player would love to play for the Reds.

“Liverpool are a really great team, everyone would love to play there,” he said.

“They won the Premier League this year and the Champions League last year. But there are other great teams in the English league.

“Frankly, I have yet to make a choice. If I am to leave, I just hope it is for a good team. At the moment, it is just guesswork.

"Everyone who works is looking for advancement. Maybe if Watford frees me one day I could go and play for a bigger team. Go and showcase my talent elsewhere and then win trophies."

Sarr's double strike against Liverpool at Vicarage Road announced him to the Premier League and the 22-year-old admitted it was a real breakthrough moment for him.

"I was coming back from an injury. I had come back during the match against Manchester, I had only played 10 short minutes.

"Against Liverpool, I didn't even think to start the match. The coach had confidence in me, he put me among the starters.

"Liverpool are a great club, but you had to make a difference and try to win, but above all not to lose.

"We were looking for at least one point if we did not have all three of the victory. God made this game win. I scored a double and we won 3-0.

"It's true that this is the match that revealed me to a lot of people. It was a big blow to mark my presence in the Premier League.

"I gave myself completely. I followed the coach's instructions and did the right thing, score goals. It did me a lot of good to see this match start me like that."

Sarr also spoke about his close friendship and on-field battles with Liverpool star and international team-mate Sadio Mane, who was seen telling Watford skipper Troy Deeney to 'look after my boy' after Watford's trip to Anfield last December.

"I don't worry about who I play against, whether we're a brother or not. Sadio, my big brother, came to win and so did I.

"Someone of us had to win and it fell on me. Fortunately I had the chance to win the last time and we moved on. It didn't change anything in our relationship as brothers.

"Our captain Troy is a really good person. He is very nice to everyone.

"When Sadio asked him to take care of me, it brought us closer even though we have a good relationship.

"He always cares about what I'm doing and helps me progress better. He's a good teammate and a good captain."
