Islington stabbing: Three teenagers arrested after 17-year-old boy knifed to death in north London

Three teenagers have been arrested after a 17-year-old boy was stabbed to death in north London.

Police and paramedics scrambled to the scene in Caledonian Road, Islington, on Tuesday night.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Images from the scene showed a forensic tent erected in the street next to a Ladbrokes betting shop.

A Section 60 stop and search order, which allows police to search anyone in a given area, was put in place until 3am on Wednesday.

The order covered much of Islington, Clerkenwell, Finsbury Park and Bloomsbury.

Police were called shortly before 7pm to a report of an assault in Caledonian Road near the junction with Tilloch Street.

Two boys, aged 17 and 16, were arrested near to the scene. An 18-year-old man was later arrested at a residential address in Islington.

All three were arrested on suspicion of murder.

They have been taken into custody at a north London police station.

In statement, Scotland Yard said: “Although we await formal identification officers are confident they know the identity of the deceased. Next of kin have been informed.

"A post-mortem examination and formal identification will be arranged in due course.

"Detectives from the Central North Command Unit are investigating alongside colleagues from the Homicide and Major Crime Command."
