Unfortunately, the fact that riders lose their lives on the roads during the Isle of Man TT is something we're all too familiar with. But when we think about that fact, we're usually thinking about those who race at the event. But just attending the IOM TT on your motorcycle puts you in significantly more danger than you might think, and the Isle of Man has just launched its annual campaign to remind spectators of that.
During the TT period in 2025, 32 road traffic collisions resulted in slight to serious injuries, and a further 65 incidents, including damage-only crashes, were recorded. It might come as a surprise to some that males aged over 50 remain the most common group involved in serious injury collisions. With thousands of visitors hitting the island's shores in a few days, the Isle of Man Constabulary doesn't want a repeat of last year.
The new safety campaign, titled ‘How Will Your TT End? You Choose…', isn't exactly new for the IOM TT; in fact, it builds on road safety campaigns from previous years. Superintendent Danny Rotchell had this to say about the campaign, ‘Building on the success of previous road safety campaigns where we have been asking people to “Know your limits”, this year is “You Choose",'
Rotchell continued, stating, "We want everyone to come and enjoy the TT experience and make it home safely by making sensible decisions, and to choose how your TT will end. Whilst we are specifically highlighting road safety issues through our latest campaign, our policing approach is wider than that; we are going into the TT with a clear message that we will be firm but fair with everyone."
What Rotchell is referencing in his previous quote is the fact that there will be a combination of visible and covert policing deployed across the island during this year's TT, and based on last year's reports, the Isle of Man will need all of its police force. During the 2025 TT, there were 22 positive roadside drug tests, nine positive drink or unfit driving results, three arrests for dangerous driving, 226 speeding offenses, and 44 cases of driving without due care and attention.
