Islanders skate to 6-2 romp over Jets

WINNIPEG, Manitoba _ The Islanders scored early and often on New Year's Eve, posting a comfortable 6-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets to close out 2016.

Nikolay Kulemin, John Tavares, Shane Prince, Ryan Strome, Anders Lee and former Jets captain Andrew Ladd had the Islanders goals and Thomas Greiss made 32 saves in his first start since Jaroslav Halak was waived.

Strome's goal at 14:13 of the second made it 4-0 and chased Winnipeg goaltender Connor Hellebuyck. The Jets' Shawn Matthias scored a short-handed goal with 29.4 seconds left in the second to cut the Isles lead to 4-1, but Lee and Ladd scored in the third to give the Isles four wins in their last five games.
