NEW YORK _ The Islanders played a strong game after losing one of their key defenseman in the first period but could only muster a point, losing to the Oilers, 4-3, in a shootout to drop to 1-3-2 in their last six games.
Nick Leddy and Shane Prince gave the Islanders an early 2-0 lead but Patrick Maroon and Leon Draisaitl scored later in the first to tie it. Casey Cizikas gave the Isles the lead back in the second but Milan Lucic scored on the power play to tie it, the second Oilers power-play goal of the game and the ninth the Isles have allowed in the last six games.
Jaroslav Halak made 20 saves, including a big stop on Jordan Eberle in overtime, but surrendered the lone goal in the shootout to Marc Letestu as the Isles have gone 0-for-6 in the shootout the past two games.
Travis Hamonic left the game with a right arm injury after blocking Maroon's shot in the first on an Oilers power play. The blocked shot deflected right to Draisaitl for the 2-2 tying goal.
