Island restauranteur 'blown away' after being named Scottish Chef of the Year

AN island restauranteur has said he is “blown away” at being named Scottish Chef of the Year.

Calum Montgomery, chef at Edinbane Lodge in Skye, picked up the award at Monday night’s Scotsman Scran Awards.

In a post on Edinbane Lodge’s Facebook page, he said: “Very surreal to be posting this but thank you to everyone at The Scotsman and Scotsman Food and Drink judging panel for naming me as Scottish Chef of the Year at last night’s awards.

“I have so much respect for all of the finalists in this category and was genuinely blown away just to see my name alongside them.

“Thank you!”

Montgomery was placed in a wide category with chefs working at restaurants across the country, including in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Gleneagles.

They were:

  • Lorna Mcnee
  • Mark Donald
  • Roberta Hall-McCarron
  • Stephen McLaughlin
  • Tom Tsappis

Many took to Facebook to congratulate Montgomery on his victory.

One user said: “Excellent achievement young man” while another described him as “a master of your craft”, adding: “Your restaurant, food and staff are phenomenal.”

Somebody else said: “Well done indeed – can’t wait to sample your fare again soon I hope."
