Island paradise of Curaçao becomes a living hell for Venezuelan migrants

Venezuela's political and economic crisis has forced three million people to flee. Thousands have gone to the nearby island of Curaçao, some 65 kilometres off the coast of Venezuela. While Curaçao is an autonomous state, it remains a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and is required to respect the European Human Rights Convention. However, in reality the situation for Venezuelans there is catastrophic, with arbitrary arrests and sexual abuse. Flavian Charuel reports.

A programme prepared by Patrick Lovett.
