Islamic State group on trial: Mother of murdered reporter James Foley speaks out

MIDDLE EAST MATTERS © FRANCE24

This week, we're remembering American journalist James Foley, days ahead of what would have been his 47th birthday. James was one of the first Western hostages to be killed by the Islamic State group. Now, after a six-year-long wait, two of his alleged killers are in the US, facing trial. Both men, who have been stripped of their British nationality, have pleaded not guilty to torture and murder. We speak to James's mother, Diane Foley.

Meanwhile, in Turkey, anti-Armenian sentiment is on the rise. The country's minority community has been caught in the crossfire since the start of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Our correspondent Shona Bhattacharyya reports.

And we remember legendary Iranian singer Mohammad Reza Shajarian, who died last week at the age of 80. To many in and out of the country, he was much more than a musician: he was the voice of Iran, and his music a symbol for the opposition.
