
Islamic NGOs are active in Mozambique, with some of them running secular schools as well as building health centres, houses and mosques.
The local Muslim business community also helped fund rebuilding efforts after the April cyclone that ravaged Mozambique. Now some are concerned about a rise in radicalisation.
Many believe the way to tackle extremism is to fight poverty, and Mozambique has a wealth of energy resources. Yet little of that wealth has filtered down to the population.
