The Islamic Arts Biennale has attracted nearly half a million visitors since its launch on January 23. (SPA)

The Diriyah Biennale Foundation announced Tuesday extending the Islamic Arts Biennale art gallery held at the Pilgrims Lounge at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah until May 23.

The decision was taken upon the visitors’ request.

The event is the first of its kind in the world and it celebrates the heritage of the Islamic culture but in an artistic manner.

Since its launch on Jan. 23, it saw a huge turnout of up to half a million visitors.

As an interactive platform, the Biennale reflects the experience of pilgrims from around the world by reflecting on the diversity of the Islamic experience.

It consists of around 280 loaned artifacts from local and international institutions and works of 40 artists.

The Biennale is held under the theme “Awwal Bait,” or “The First House,” an indication of the holy Kaaba.

The Biennale, held on an area of over 118,000 square meters, provides unique opportunities for learning, research, and contemplation on this type of art, as well as the art dialogues it hosts on a journey that regenerates feelings and memories across the four galleries, orbit gallery, and two pavilions.

The Biennale enjoys special importance for being the starting point of the life journey for millions of Muslims from all over the world, urging them to conjure the history, culture, and heritage of the place on a journey between the past, the present, and the future.
