You don’t really know what’s going on as this advert gets under way but, once you realise what it’s getting at, you have to admire its celebration of British barminess. At the heart of it all, the gallant AA breakdown teams are turning up to rescue the motorists who find themselves in these unlikely scenarios … each of which is based on a true story.

ING Direct: “Isla Fisher’s Monologue” (Starts at 01:08) – Australia
In this funny Australian piece for the bank ING Direct, we’re given a rare insight into a celebrity’s thought process before they take part in an advert. Australian actor Isla Fisher proves that her husband, Sacha Baron Cohen, doesn’t have a monopoly on the family funny bones by delivering a terrific comedy performance that includes a cleverly authentic advocacy of the advertised service.

This explosion of noise benefits from the infectious zeal of its performers. Upon receiving a gentle thank you from his boss, an office junior’s simple act of changing a light bulb becomes a cause for mass celebration. The drink of choice for the hero is a bottle of Volvic fruit-infused water stolen from a protesting colleague’s desk.

Breast Cancer Now “The Last One” (Starts at 03:16) – UK
A group of women weave their stories together in this profoundly moving ad for Breast Cancer Now. One by one they tell us they won’t be the last to find a lump, or lose a breast, or find it has spread, or have to tell their children the dreadful news because they won’t be the last to die from the disease. But someone will be, one day.

Zurich Insurance: “Golf Love Tests” (Starts at 04:20) – USA
The combination of the words “insurance” and “golf” threaten an instant cure for insomnia, but you can watch this advert without fear of falling asleep because – as unlikely as it sounds – it’s actually very funny. Golfers such as Rickie Fowler, Justin Rose, Lexi Thompson and Jamie Donaldson take time out from their sport to take part in a round of a lie detecting.
