ISIS bride Shamima Begum fears she will die in Syrian prison camp

Islamic State bride Shamima Begum says she is “very afraid” she will die in a Syrian prison camp as a Turkish offensive raises tensions in the region.

The 20-year-old from Bethnal Green, east London, has been stuck in the al-Roj camp in north-east Syria since her British citizenship was revoked in February.

She fears a Turkish offensive into the Kurdish-controlled territory could spark riots.

Shamima said: “There is the fear that if the Kurds leave there could be chaos here, anarchy, and that our lives would be at risk from dangerous people in this camp. There are some psychotic women in here.”

Shamima left her family with two schoolfriends to join IS in February 2015 when she was aged just 15. The other two are thought to have been killed in the fighting.

Shamima has had three children, all of them now dead.
