IShowSpeed, along with some other major creators, is pushing back against X’s plan to remove the Communities feature, saying the move could hurt how they engage with their most dedicated fans.
IShowSpeed publicly criticized the potential removal of Communities on X after news spread that the feature is being shut down in favor of XChat group chats.
In a post on April 23, the streamer said he doesn’t think the change is a good idea and pointed to his own SPEED GANG Community, which has more than 100,000 members, as proof of how important the feature has become for creators.
“I personally don’t think this is a good idea. I have a community with over 100k in there, and it allows me to talk with my community. You shouldn’t do this.”
He explained that the Community lets him talk directly with his audience in a more focused space than his main feed. A few minutes later, Speed followed up with another post, doubling down on his stance.
Big creators like KSI and YourRAGE are lining up against the change
Speed is not the only high-profile name unhappy with the Communities sunset. KSI also weighed in, calling it a “terrible idea” that the platform “didn’t need to do.”
Streamer YourRAGE echoed that frustration from inside his own YRG COMMUNITY. On the platform side, X is trying to push Community owners toward XChat, its group chat product meant to replace at least some of Communities’ use cases.
Nikita Bier, X’s head of product, said the company has “heard” user feedback and will give people until May 30 to migrate, extending the window beyond the earlier May 6 date circulating in creator circles.
He also promised that group chat limits will increase to 500 members immediately, with a target of 1,000 members “in the next couple weeks.”
Bier argued that this expansion should “cover all but a handful of communities on X.” Many existing Communities already exceed 1,000 members, including a music Community with around 100,000 members and others in the 4,000 to 20,000 range, which means large groups can’t move over intact without being split into multiple chats.
What it means for creator communities on X
For creators like IShowSpeed, whose community alone crosses the six-figure mark, the proposed XChat limits leave an obvious gap. Even with the extended migration deadline, there is no clear one‑to‑one replacement for massive, semi-public groups where thousands of fans get to gather under a single banner.
The backlash from Speed, KSI, YourRAGE, and the wider community shows that this isn’t just about one feature going away. Whether XChat can realistically handle that role without leaving the biggest groups behind needs to be seen.
