Isco, Volland and the three other players Arsenal are tipped to sign in January transfer window

Arsenal will be hoping for their first victory under Mikel Arteta against Manchester United at the Emirates on Wednesday night.

The Gunners showed signs of promise against Chelsea with a much-improved display, despite the disappointing defeat at the weekend.

As a result of their poor start to the season, the Gunners are currently the subject of plenty of speculation around transfers with the window now open for business.

And here are the five players seen as most likely to sign for the Gunners this month, according to SportNation.

Premier League match preview: Arsenal v Manchester United

Kevin Volland - 2/1

The man the bookies believe the Gunners are most likely to sign, Arsenal have reportedly sent scouts to watch the highly-rated 27-year-old this season.

Volland has the ability to operate as a striker, or on the wing, and has scored five goals and claimed seven assists in 17 games this season.

But Leverkusen, according to reports over Christmas, are expected to block Arsenal's approach for Volland this January.

Isco - 7/2

A somewhat surprising name on the list given the Spanish international has been linked with a move to Chelsea in recent weeks.

The Spanish giants are believed to be looking to make way for a move for Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen in the upcoming transfer window, while also complying with UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations.

As a result, Isco could be one of those players to make way in the Spanish capital, having struggled to hold down a regular place under Zinedine Zidane this season.

Los Blancos are believed to want £44m for their man this month.

Dayot Upamecano - 4/1

Arsenal are thought to be long-time fans of the Frenchman, with reports that the north London club made a £40million bid in the summer for the Red Bull Leipzig defender.

A right-footer who can also play in central midfield, Upamecano is an old-fashioned defender who "loves to defend" according to France youth coach Jean-Claude Giuntini in 2015.

According to recent reports, Upamecano could be allowed to leave in the summer if an offer of around £40million is lodged by Arsenal, or any other club for that matter.

But it remains to be seen whether he will be allowed to leave this month, although the Gunners are in need of someone to boost their backline.

Dries Mertens - 6/1

A name who has been linked with a move away from Napoli following Carlo Ancelotti’s departure.

Recent reports suggested that the Gunners have already enquired about a January transfer window move for Mertens, who is out on contract at the Serie A side at the end of the season.

Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis is believed to have made the 32-year old a last ditch contract offer, believed to be a ‘take it or leave it’ two-year deal worth €4.2million per year.

But the forward is yet to give the Italian giants an answer, meaning they could be forced to cash in in January.

Thomas Lemar - 8/1

Lemar was a target for the club prior to his move to Atletico Madrid in 2017 and that interest has been reignited according to reports.

The French international has made just 15 La Liga appearances for Atletico this season, but reports from Spain claim that he will be allowed to leave the club should the north London club produce an ‘important’ offer.

Lemar is contracted to Atletico until 2023, having joined the Spanish giants for £63 million ($82.4 million) fee from Monaco in the summer of 2018.
