Isambard Kingdom Brunel - a picture from the past

Isambard Kindom Brunel
The engineer and inventor Isambard Kingdom Brunel (1806-1859) stands in front of the massive chains belonging to his ship, the SS Great Eastern, while under construction at a shipyard in Millwall, London in 1857. The vessel was the largest ship ever built at the time and was launched the following year and but was scrapped on Merseyside after only 30 years of service. The top mast was taken to Anfield, the home of Liverpool football club to be used as a flag pole at the famous Kop end, where it still stands today
