Isaiah Wynn says rookie year on IR was hard, but looks at ‘the brighter side’

Left tackle Isaiah Wynn has done a lot of watching — and not much playing — during his NFL career. He tore his Achilles in preseason last year, and missed his entire rookie season in 2018.

So far in training camp, he has been limited, and has watched while Joe Thuney and Dan Skipper take snaps at left tackle. Wynn has done some work in competition 11-on-11 drills, but clearly isn’t ready to go full-tilt, even if he told reporters that he feels good.

He was asked how it felt to sit on the sidelines in 2018 after going in the first round of the draft.

“Of course it’s hard,” Wynn told reporters on Friday after practice. “Just that competitive nature, you want to get out there and be able to help the team, but I also had to look at it as another aspect I was able to help the team just being able to really get myself prepared up until here.”

But he saw a silver lining.

“I feel like that really gave me an opportunity, looking at the brighter side, it gave me an opportunity to see how everything works,” Wynn said. “Especially going this far that we went last season, just being able to get a chance coming in as a rookie to see the entire thing, about everything works, how players operate and how practice goes and just how people take care of their bodies.”
