Isaac Nauta to team up with Matt Stafford in Detroit

Former Georgia tight end Isaac Nauta has been taken by the Detroit Lions in the 7th round of the NFL Draft, with the 224th overall pick.

Nauta joins a Detroit team that is led by former No. 1 overall pick and Bulldog great Matthew Stafford.

Nauta came to Georgia as a five-star recruit in the 2016 class out of IMG Academy, though he is originally from Buford, Georgia.

Georgia never fully utilized Nauta’s skillset, however, it was still clear that he was deserving of that five-star rating he had coming out of high school.

His freshman season, Nauta was a favorite target of quarterback Jacob Eason. He was third on the team with 29 catches for 361 yards and three touchdowns.

During Georgia’s national title run, Nauta’s sophomore year, the Georgia offense completely went away from him. He played often, but only had nine catches for 114 yards.

This past season is when Georgia fans realized exactly what we have missed out on. Nauta was the team’s third leading receiver, with 30 catches for 430 yards. He played great against Florida and Alabama, stringing together multiple catches in a row and picking up big chunks of yardage.
