Isaac Hayden set to be involved in Newcastle United's pre-season campaign with no summer move fixed up

Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden is set to kick off the club's pre-season campaign in China next week.

The 24-year-old has yet to secure a summer move despite making it abundantly clear to both former boss Rafa Benitez and managing director Lee Charnley.

But despite interest from Watford, Hayden remains a United player and will be in the squad that take on Wolverhampton Wanderers in the first game of Premier League's Asia Trophy tournament.

Hayden could still leave the club but if Steve Bruce gets the nod as manager he will want to speak to him first.

The former Arsenal man worked with Bruce during a loan spell at Hull City and has a good rapport with the 58-year-old.

Hayden wants to move down south to be closer to his partner and daughter.

He said recently: It’s not about what’s best for just me.

"I have to sit there and think about it.

"I don’t even think I’ve played my best football, being honest with you.

"Sometimes the travelling takes it out of you."
