Isaac Hayden reveals what really happened in run up to Newcastle's brilliant winner

Isaac Hayden has revealed he wasn’t assigned to push up to be the match winner against Chelsea.

But after picking up a yellow card, Hayden found himself at the back post to nick it against the Blues.

Hayden said afterwards: “I wasn’t supposed to go up for the corner. I was supposed to stay back and be the last defender but I was on a yellow card so I couldn’t foul anyone so I thought I might as well go up.”

Hayden was shunted to right wing-back in the second half and thought he was going to be subbed.

He said: “I thought I was coming off (when Steve Bruce beckoned me over).

“I didn’t have a clue what was happening but he said just do a job for the team and I’m pleased to have done that.”
