Isaac Hayden reveals he is uncertain about staying at Newcastle United as deadline day looms

Isaac Hayden has admitted he still doesn't know if he will be a Newcastle United player after deadline day.

The midfielder wanted a move at the start of the summer for family reasons but Steve Bruce has recently suggested the player he nurtured at Hull City is open to staying.

However, Hayden has now left the door ajar for a late transfer window move.

He said: "I couldn't answer that question right now.

"The deadline is Thursday. In football anything can happen.

"I am not going to stand here and say: 'This is me 100% staying here'.

"I don't know what can happen and football is a crazy game. But as I have said I have really enjoyed pre-season."

Hayden, though, has enjoyed working with Bruce again, he told BBC Newcastle: "I have enjoyed the manager coming in.

"It has been good for me and good for the squad.

"Especially after the off season and obviously the uncertainty surrounding Rafa Benitez.

"It's not just Steve Bruce it's Stephen Clemence and Steve Agnew.

"I think everyone's enjoying it and you can see on the pitch that everyone's enjoying playing under them."

Bruce had said in his press conference on Saturday night that Newcastle were trying to lure Hayden into staying with the offer of a new contract.

He said: "He's up to staying. That is good news for all of us.

"We hope we can tie him up to a new deal, that is in the pipeline.

"Once we get the transfer window out the road we will start some kind of negotiations."
