Isaac Hayden says Newcastle United players are refusing to get to downbeat after their 3-1 defeat at Anfield.
The midfielder put in another accomplished display in Newcastle's midfield engine room against Liverpool but is now already looking ahead to this weekend's home clash with Brighton & Hove Albion.
Hayden feels like games against the Seagulls will ultimately help decide the club's fate this season as United bid for a third successive season in the Premier League since promotion in 2017.
The former Arsenal man said: "Our season won't be judged on playing Liverpool away.
"The games for us that we have to capitalise on are against Brighton.
"But we will take a lot from Anfield still.
"The lads gave a good effort and we now take that into training and look to do our best against Brighton.
"Last year we lost 4-0 and got a proper hammering at Liverpool. Since then I have cracked on. I knew I had the performances and confidence inside me to be able to do it.
"I have proved it to myself that I can do it."
Newcastle could not have asked for a better start at Liverpool after going 1-0 up thanks to Jetro Willems' thunderbolt at the Anfield Road End.
The opening 25 minutes of the game even left Jurgen Klopp frustrated as United dictated the pace of the game.
But United couldn't keep it up and eventually crumbled to their own mistakes.
Speaking to the Chronicle, Hayden said: "It is difficult to sustain those energy levels that we had in the first 20 minutes for the whole of the game.
"But we gave a good account of ourselves.
"There will be better teams that come here and still lose.
"I look at the Arsenal game and I don't think we were any different to when they came here, we were probably better.
"At times, we had chances, and if we are being critical then we should have been hitting the target with them or causing the keeper to make a save.
"It is just mistakes at pivotal times that have cost us.
"Against teams like Liverpool, world-class teams, you are going to get punished.
"If you are playing other sides, no disrespect to them, if you make a mistake you may not get punished.
"Do it against the European champions you won't get a second chance."
United will be in a sturdy enough position if they can beat Brighton at St James' Park and Hayden feels that his team-mates have enough in the tank to bounce back from their loss in Liverpool.
The England Under-21 international said: "The team spirit is massive here.
"The manager could see it the moment he walked through the door.
"The lads here all want to do well.
"Steve Bruce has got us together even more and made us better at it.
"You can now see that everybody is fighting for the same cause.
"We're all trying to listen to what the manager wants us to do.
"We're all trying to go in the same direction."
