Isaac Hayden hits out after Newcastle United's 5-2 defeat at Leeds

Isaac Hayden has hit out at the 'rules' after Newcastle United's 5-2 defeat at Leeds United.

Taking to social media after the game, a clearly frustrated Hayden seemingly hit out for being booked just after the break.

Hayden was adjudged to have fouled Mateusz Klich although some fans argued he got the ball, and it would appear the midfielder agrees.

"Not quite sure what the rules are anymore," Hayden posted on Twitter, "Can’t tackle and dare touch the other player? "Unacceptable end to the game tonight, bumps along the way are to be expected but we need to react quickly for the weekend.

"Thank you for your continued support."

Newcastle were left feeling cheated after a foul on Callum Wilson in the box went unpunished with the game at 1-1.

Referee Simon Hooper did not check the pitchside monitor after VAR double-checked the incident.

Head coach Steve Bruce clearly felt it was a penalty, telling reporters afterwards: "I was all for VAR when they brought it in. I think if anybody looks at the challenge they'll understand it's a clear penalty.

"We may not have gone on to win the match but certainly, when you go in front the outcome can be different."

Just 10 minutes later Leeds took the lead before Ciaran Clark equalised but then the Magpies collapsed and shipped three late goals.
