Is WhatsApp down? Users report problems with the messaging app

People are reporting a number of issues with mobile messaging application WhatsApp.

Users of the app took to Twitter to vent their frustration and ask others if they were experiencing the same issues.

Many were saying that messages were remaining undelivered, while WhatsApp Web - the web version linked to the mobile app - was informing users that their phone was 'disconnected'.

Website Down Detector said they had received over 400 reports of problems with WhatsApp, with their outage map showing issues across large parts of Europe and Malaysia.

WhatsApp's official Twitter account has yet to release any details about the outages.

WhatsApp is a freeware service now owned by Facebook.

It was founded in 2009 by Brian Acton and Jan Koum, who were former employees of Yahoo!. They named the app WhatsApp so that it sounds like 'What's up?".
