Is VAR being used at Euro 2020?

The 16th European Championship will get underway on Friday when Italy host Turkey at the Stadio Olimpico.

It will be the first of 51 games played at Euro 2020, all of which will be using VAR.

VAR was introduced to international football during the 2018 World Cup in Russia and brought plenty of controversy with it due to its role in sending holders Germany home in the group stage, as well as helping Spain knock out Morocco, much to the displeasure of Nordin Amrabat, who shouted expletives down the camera at the full-time whistle.

It played a huge part throughout the tournament, checking a total of 455 incidents to help award 29 penalties, the most in any World Cup.

The technology will likely be at the forefront of discussions during this summer's Euros, with tight offside calls, penalty shouts and handball appeals all scrutinised in forensic detail.
