Is Twitter down? Users report error code and not being able to open links

Twitter users have complained that the social media website is down, with many upon to open links or pictures.

According to downdetector, almost 700 reports were made complaining that Twitter wasn't working properly from 4pm on Monday (March 6). Some users have been getting an error message whenever they open a Twitter link, reading: "Your current API plan does not include access to this endpoint, please see https://developer.twitter.com/en/docs/twitter-api for more information".

Taking to the social media site, @AndriaTheFox asked: "Is twitter down or something because images won't load," @ganstarih said: "Is twitter down?" and @HighTweetsInc added: "Looks like twitter's media servers are down lol".

NBC News reporters Ben Collins tweeted: "You can't post images on Twitter right now, likely because the site's URL shortener/redirect service (https://t.co) is down. Don't want to be controversial, but I don't think this is good for https://Twitter.com."

Twitter have not yet commented on the issue.

Meanwhile, earlier today Twitter owner Elon Musk responded with mockery to a BBC investigation which said the social media platform is struggling to protect users from online abuse and child sexual exploitation, among other things.

A BBC Panorama report cited figures from the Institute for Strategic Dialogue think tank which showed that tens of thousands of new accounts have popped up and immediately followed known abusive and misogynistic profiles since Mr Musk took over.

However in response posted a tweet apologising “for turning Twitter from nurturing paradise into place that has … trolls.”
