Is Tommy Fleetwood joining LIV Golf Tour? Latest as golfer linked to Saudi-backed breakaway

Southport Ryder Cup star Tommy Fleetwood is the latest British golf star to be linked with the new LIV Golf Tour, following reports in The Times stating that his wife and manager Claire Craig was at the inaugural $25m event at Centurion Club just over two weeks ago.

The DP World Tour has already issued fines to players who have chosen to participate in the controversial tour, which is backed by the Public Investment Fund, the sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia. European tour players Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood, Sergio Garcia, Martin Kaymer, Graeme McDowell and Richard Bland, have all fined £100,000 for their participation.

The new tour, which has been joined by American Phil Mickleson along with multiple other big name golfers have pledged to support any players who choose to join the tour by paying the fines and as well as any future legal costs.

Fines are expected to double for every LIV Golf event DP World Tour members play. The next tournament will take place in Portland, Oregon, at Pumpkin Ridge with Mickelson expected to play in the first event in his home country alongside Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau, Patrick Reed and Kevin Na.

Fleetwood, ranked 49 in the world is yet to win a PGA Tour event or major but has won five times on the European circuit and has also represented Europe in the Ryder Cup.

One player who won't be joining the host of stars at the event is Tiger Woods, who according to reports, rejected a 'nine figure offer' to join the new tour which has been described as golf's equivalent of the European Super League.
