Is this the perfect BentSpoke beer to have with pizza?

There's nothing like an ice cold beer to wash down a pizza and now there's the perfect beer to do it with.

BentSpoke Brewing and Italian and Sons have collaborated on a beer using the Braddon restaurant's pizza dough starter, the same starter Pasquale Trimboli has been using since he opened the restaurant doors in 2009.

Regina, meaning queen in Italian, after Queen Margarite and her alleged namesake margherita pizza, is available in bottleshops across the country now in eye-catching yellow cans, or on tap at the Braddon Brewhouse and at Italian and Sons.

Trimboli has been friends with BentSpoke head brewer and co-founder Richard Watkins for many years and the idea of making a beer together has always been fermenting.

Watkins added a touch of oregano to create a clean, slightly herbal and dry finish to the refreshing pale ale.

"It's a delicious take on pizza in a beer, and the Italian and Sons sourdough starter has given us some great yeast-like characters within the beer," Watkins said.

"It's one that we think everyone will enjoy and pairs well with a savoury and heart-warming meal."

Trimboli says it's great that two Canberra brands have joined forces.

"The BentSpoke crew are so inspiring, professional, dedicated, and open-minded, we've been a fan for many, many years," he says.

"When we brainstormed with Richard about how we could create the perfect pizza beer, our taste buds went off the charts and the concept for Regina was born.

"I am so thrilled with this collaboration and I couldn't be prouder.

"The beer is such a great, and delicious way to showcase the best taste of Canberra and we can now share it across Australia."
